Mary Ann Vessey

Mary Ann was born in a small town in central Georgia and spent much of her childhood on her grandfather's farm. The memories of that time and the powerful influence of the beauty of the land have become the mainstay of the paintings, which she creates as an adult.

Mary Ann's subject matter draws heavily from the sweeping grandeur of the land around her, which she treats with a mixture of awe and familiarity. Her broad vistas are then personalized with ordinary folks and ordinary animals doing typical chores, ideas often drawn directly from her childhood and her own family life. The clarity and sophistication of color, the broad vistas, and the concentration of familiar activity are the elements that make Mary Ann's paintings so distinctive.
