Lloyd Pretty

Lloyd Pretty is a self-taught artist, born in Chapel Arm, Newfoundland. At an early age, Lloyd showed artistic promise. Art supplies were hard to find and the realities of life forced him to take other jobs to earn a living.

His experiences varied from lumbering to seafaring on an oil tanker. During his adventures at sea, Lloyd's interest in art was reawakened. He visited art galleries in every port of call and took up painting as a hobby. Lloyd's love for the Maritimes inspired him to paint the rugged coasts and rocky cliffs, the wooded interior and the changeable seas that became the backdrop for his narrative and picturesque renditions.

In 1978, when his work was selling steadily, Lloyd decided to make a full time commitment to his art. Whether his work is painted with oils, acrylic or watercolor, it depicts the strength of character and rich heritage that Lloyd knows so well.

Lloyd has had many successful one man shows over his career. His work is on display in many cooperate business as well as hundreds of private collections. Galleries all over Canada carry Lloyd's Limited Edition Prints which are sought after as the edition is always very low and quickly become collectors items.
Lloyd has been given several awards included in the International Heritage Registry of who's who. Lloyd is in great demand as an instructor and teacher in oils, acrylic and watercolor. He has plans to publish a "How TO" video and a book on oil painting.

Lloyd's hobbies include photography, swimming, cross country sking, hiking and camping. He also enjoys to write music and play guitar and harmonica. Lloyd is also proud about his charity work. In 2005, he supported twenty different charities by donating artwork for auctions, and plans to keep doing so in the future.
