Laurie Gonya

I grew up watching my mother plant and cultivate our yard into magnificent gardens using different textures, patterns, and colors as her palette.  Often she would find me outside sketching in her garden.

After many years of searching for the right subject to paint, I finally found my passion in painting flowers.  I came back to my roots.  Flowers have been my inspiration for several years now.

I am engaged in the process of finding the perfect flowers to photograph, then using the photographs as reference when painting.  I paint in a realistic style using many layers of acrylic paint and glazes to capture the light and intensify the color and form. By magnifying the flowers and background, my goal is for the observer to feel the petal and smell the blossom.  My success comes when the viewer gets lost in the blossom and is connected to the world within.
